20th Reunion Recap by Brian Sims
We started the weekend on Friday on campus with the meet and
greet and the tour of the school. CHS looked pretty much the same after 20
years and was getting a new roof, so I guess she has 20 more in her. The
school now has halls where all class members have their lockers, which is a big
change from the disjointed method of locker assignments when we went to CHS. The
Stadium was the same (not withstanding the metal detectors we had to go through
to get into the stadium). Under the new head coach (a former assistant
from down-the-street powerhouse, Marist) we took it to Terrell leading 41 at
half-time. We had about 100 classmates, families and children attend the
Game.
Then it was off to the 5 Season Brewery. We had a nice
room to ourselves and enjoyed a few made on-site beer varieties. Laughter,
pictures and reminiscing were the highlight of the evening. At midnight
(when I left), the event was still going strong.
The Saturday night event was great. Like any planned event
(wedding or other) we had our share of miscues. There was a major wreck on
I-85 which slowed the arrival of more than a few classmates, our nametags
arrived (a little late, but everyone enjoyed them none the less). The food
and drinks (flowed very well) were great and the views and slightly breezy night
made for a lovely backdrop. Over 20 classmates had so much fun on Friday,
that they paid at the door on Saturday, so we had well over 70 classmates and 40
brave spouses!! We got kicked out at Midnight and the brave continued on
at Bizarre, on Ponce down the road. Feet hurting and sitter waiting, I
turned in for the night, noting that we were able to pick up friendships
that may have been forgotten for 10, 15, or 20 years with ease and we were still
as close as a class as they come. I hope you made some connections that
will continue. With over half the class living in Metro Atlanta, we are
all practically neighbors.
If you are interested in helping to plan the next one in 5 years
(Maybe smaller events for the weekend) or in 10 (Big event), please send me a line
and we will start forming a committee.
I plan on keeping the website up (hopefully for at least the
next 5 years), so if you move or change e-mail address, get married, have more
children, find the whereabouts of one of the missing or have anything to share, please send it in so we can keep your
contact information as up to date as possible.)
If you wan to add a thought or share a story, please send it to me
and I will post (keep it clean).
